Verizon user: Verizon blocks IRC over 3G. You won't be able to use AndroIRC, nor any other IRC client, over 3G, you will need to use wifi. It's not a bug! If you want to use IRC over 3G, I suggest you to use an SSH Tunnel, see here : http://code.google.com/p/sshtunnel/ (thanks Daryl !)

Chatting with the whole world has never been so easy. Just start Rooms and you’re connected - everywhere and every time!

Based on Chat Core* (part of the Colloquy project) Rooms provides you easy access to every IRC network all over the world.

If you dont know anything about this IRC thing, this isn't even a problem since the app also provides a preselected list of channels to start chatting right after you've entered your nickname.
Using this IRC chat protocoll you can even join for example ICQ or Ustream chat rooms, cause they share the same technique!

Rooms already comes with a lot of functionality, but more and more features are planned to be added in upcoming (free) updates.

JMIRC (Free, Not included in the BIS service)

jmIrc is a J2ME MIDlet allowing ie. cell phone owners to use IRC wirelessly. It should work on any device supportingMIDP 1.0 and also supports connecting through HTTP proxy server on phones that don't support the Java socket API.
This project started as a fork of Sverre ValskrĂ„'s WLIrc but eventually led to be a complete rewrite project. Its aim is to be as small and lightweight as possible still trying to maintain the ease of use and all needed features. At the same time it tries to be some kind of hybrid implementing all the most useful features from other clients.

  • Tries to be small and easy to use (v0.95 is 34 kB, Virca is 33 kB and WLIrc 1.0 is 49 kB)
